Mirror Maze, The Jewel
BAM collaborated closely with Peter Walker and Partners to design a series of Mirror Gardens for the Jewel, a commercial center and a park with the worlds biggest indoor waterfall in Changi Airport Singapore. The original plan for the public space of the Jewel envisioned a series of diff erent mirror gardens. BAM developed several of these concepts to the level of detailed construction drawing. Although some of the mirror gardens did not make it off the chopping block, the Mirror Maze Garden was built. It is one of the most highly visited elements inside of the Canopy Garden today.
The design was developed based on BAM’s 2012 collaboration with Peter Walker for the Beijing Garden Expo mirror walls. BAM developed the Mirror Maze to include recessed mirror details at hexagonal columns, making it very diffi cult to discern reality from refl ection. The details also include recessed lighting programmed to illuminate the maze solution periodically in case visitors need help escaping.
