Buji Residences
In a departure from conventional luxury residential landscapes, BAM introduces a fresh design vocabulary specific to this project. This design style is intended to reflect Shenzhen’s forward-looking urban context and harmonize with the tropical mountaintop setting.
The steep slopes and limited usable area necessitated exact planning and execution of landscape programs. Unlike conventional residential landscapes that typically feature planting around inoffensive plazas and resting areas, this project attempts to address a diverse range of amenities catering to specific needs of residents of all ages. On one axis the programs range from planting based botanical experiences to urban playground hardscapes. On another axis spaces range from tranquil meditative pavilions to thrilling play elements.Â
The matrix includes an intriguing mix of garden destinations ensuring even at full capacity the residential zone will provide intimate ‘me-spaces’ for residents of every age and activity level. These include the lover’s garden, the pet’s park, the maze garden, the gambler’s garden, the Michael Jackson dance plaza. The larger features are more popular in social media include the Playscraper playground and the community pool and corridor structure.
Remarkably, the project ties together residents from very different socioeconomic backgrounds and provides a common place that unifies them as residents of the whole community. Relocation residents and sales apartments residents’ landscapes are designed as a shared common, encouraging interaction and equitable access to all landscape resources.
Yet, the most remarkable aspect of this landscape is not the inclusivity and diversity it fosters. The project holds a profound affection among residents of all ages. The landscape spaces, beloved and heavily utilized, also receive meticulous care. Residents personalize and paint fire hydrants, children eagerly invite friends for playdates, while adults socialize and exercise together. As designers visiting the now-occupied project, BAM has found something far more rare than luxurious landscape stones or plants: a loving community.
