“We observe ourselves; we observe others; we observe others being observed; we observe ourselves being observed.”
The exhibition architecture is built from 12mm translucent double-sided polycarbonate honeycomb panels. These partitions act like a diffused filter between reality and image, allowing visitors to appear as fragments of a film in the eyes of others. The material reflects as well as transmits, weaving video projections with shifting light across the space.
Three custom-designed furniture pieces redefined the conventions of viewing new media art. A two-meter-square platform invites reclining rather than seated spectatorship. Sofas tilted at 15.3 degrees match the body’s natural resting angle. A wheeled sofa with a pulley mechanism allows a single user to reconfigure the field of vision by simply lifting one side. Each piece was developed with visual assembly guides and modular 3D diagrams to ensure precise on-site fabrication and installation.
The installation invites encounters—with art, with others, and with oneself.
The VH AWARD was initiated in 2016 by Hyundai Motor Group to support emerging media artists who engage deeply with the context of Asia. It offers finalists a hybrid online residency, generous production funding, and platforms for exhibition around the world. Works submitted traverse video art, motion graphics, animation, games, and other screen-based audiovisual forms, exploring our relationship with time, identity, technology, legacy, and community.
