Daniel Gass speaks at Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University
May 06, 2024
BAM co-founder Daniel Gass and BAM Partner Jingwen Guan spoke at an academic landscape conference hosted by Architectural Design & Research Institute of Zhejiang University. The topic of the conference revolved around resilient urban development and design practices from an ecological perspective.
BAM contributed to the discussion with our recent projects Longking Pro-Environmental Campus facilitating sophisticated water purification through technology and landscape, Baoshan Sanitation Center processing waste and changing the public perception towards waste management facilities, and Suzhou Super Forest an innovative ‘landscape as climate solution’ project.
BAM sees the potential reversal of traditional design hierarchy to meet the environmental and social challenges of our century and believes that landscapes, as opposed to buildings, should be foregrounded as the defining icons of future cities. Rooted in the understanding of landscape as a constructed cultural medium, BAM’s work transforms the confluences of urban spaces, boundaries, and peripheries into sustainable and celebrated spaces.
