BAM’s Super Forest Concept Wins in Suzhou
September 24, 2024
BAM is delighted to pick up another competition win as part of a consortium with Martha Schwarz Partners (MSP) upgrading a major park in Suzhou. BAMÂ proposed the ‘Super Forest‘ landscape planning strategy, detailed it into design implementations for the renovation of Suzhou Nobel Lake Park, and provided the design of an architectural piece of the project, the ‘Super Hall‘ based on the planting grid of the proposed ‘Super Forest’ strategy.
Suzhou Nobel Lake Park, a modern science oriented urban center, is located between Lake Tai and ancient Suzhou, one of the world’s most important centers for landscape philosophy and art. The project provides green transport infrastructure and spaces for innovation in science and technology. The consortium took an adaptive approach to master planning and design of the area, where landscape is considered as a climate solution, addressing the problems at multiple scales, from the entire urban area down to a single building.
The Suzhou Nobel Lake Park project, along with initiatives like the ‘Super Forest’, inspires a new frontier of science and innovation in the lineage of landscape evolution, building upon Suzhou’s rich cultural landscape heritage, such as the Scholar’s Rocks and Suzhou Gardens, while protecting it for future generations. With this approach, MSP and BAM aim to create a legacy that honors the past while advancing scientific progress and environmental stewardship through the means of landscape.
