Chandy
Chandy, BAM’s innovative bud-shaped light installation, is located in the central hall of the Wujin Planning Bureau in Changzhou, Jiangsu. Dozens of droplet-shaped LED lights light up in a delicate ebb and flow gently illuminating the atrium.
BAM was hired to fabricate a chandelier from the architecture team’s concept package, leading to a comprehensive design development phase led by BAM. BAM invented a system of illuminated LED sandwich petals which feature glowing droplet tips. The glowing petals are arranged around a revolving spiral core geometry, and the geometry shrinks progressively in size to a bud-like tip.
In the fabrication process, BAM made several innovations in addition to the sandwich droplet panel LED’s. It should be noted that the program of the lighting mimics respiration. The droplet tips slowly fade in and out, creating a visual effect that the entire structure is gently moving. BAM fabricated the piece in Beijing before shipping and installing it on-site.
